Mrs. Spiff and me had a scare yesterday. We both never knew dogs look and be sad. Yes, this is going to be another Pebbles story, so bear with it. Besides Annyboo wants more stories and pictures of Pebbles, so blame her for this ... LOL!
Anyways, I took Pebbles to the office yesterday cos my boss wanted to send her for grooming. Her fur was getting a tad bit too bushy and the poor girl could hardly see with all that fur covering her eyes. After the grooming, I picked her up and then brought her back to the office cos it was too early to head home.
As per Pebbles, she was happily running around the whole place but when I brought her back home and just after her dinner time, she started to be very quiet. She had this really distant and sad look in her eyes and she wasn't her active self. The moment I brought her home, Mrs. Spiff could already tell that she wasn't her usual cheery self.
She said that Pebbles looks sad and you could see it in her eyes. I thought maybe she missed my boss who was her rightful owner so I let her be. Then while watching TV, all she did was just lie there and didn't even move much. Now, that's so unlike her cos she's always coming to Mrs. Spiff and me seeking pampering and offering her tummy to be rubbed. Yes, she just loves a good tummy rub :D
By this time, Mrs. Spiff and me were already getting a little worried. We've never owned a dog before, well not one of these house dogs anyway. When we brought her up to the room, she just went and lay down under the bed, which is her favourite sleeping place and no amount of whistling or calling her worked. She just lay under the bed and looked at us with sad, dour eyes, not even bothering to lift her head.
That's it, I said, this must be serious. I texted my boss about her condition and he said to just let her sleep cos she was probably tired. I suppose he knew better. Mrs. Spiff and me thought she was traumatized from the grooming session cos they did such a lousy job and she had cuts and red bruisers all over her body. But with nothing else that we could do we just let her sleep it off the night.
We both were like anxious parents with a sick kid worrying about her. I woke up so many times at night just to check on her under the bed. I was even more worried cos she would normally sleep next to me for a while and then head under the bed but this time she didn't even bother to sleep next to me. I was praying that nothing was really wrong with her and that she was just tired and would be her normal self in the morning.
Morning didn't come soon enough and I was so glad to see that she was slowly but steadily becoming her usual cheery self. When I called Mrs. Spiff from work to inquire about her, she said that she was her usual self again ... phew! Guess she was really tired, that's all. And when I came home, she heard my car and ran to the room door waiting for me to come up.
The moment I walked up the stairs to the room, I saw her and Mrs. Spiff sitting on the stairs wagging her tail (Pebbles la and not Mrs. Spiff ... LOL!) and I could actually see the smile on her face. It was a vast contrast to the sad look she on yesterday and that was when I knew dogs could smile :D She was so happy and it warmed my heart to know that nothing was really wrong with her after all. Even Mrs. Spiff had a huge smile on her face :D
Oh my god, what a long post. I'm becoming like that long winded Nick fellow. I'd better stop here and go to bed soon cos I have this huge sale I wanna attend tomorrow morning and I don't want to be late. So in the meantime, here are some pictures of her with her new hairdo :D
hehehehee... thanks for the lovely pictures.. and for a moment there.. i tot Mrs Spiff was wagging with Pebbles.. hehhehee..
ReplyDeleteShitzu are pretty vain doggies.. and when they go for haircut.. sometimes when the cut is not too great.. or its too short.. they will feel that they are no more cute.. pretty... so the sad face. What you do is.. when she's back from grooming..praise her a lot and reassure her that she's still cute as ever.. hehehe.. it works with Piper. They have a certain pride.
Would u like to try Piper's groomer next time? She's very good with shitzus... and its cheaper than 60 bucks.. :) the groomer's in Taman Mayang... if u like to try next time.. i'll get u the address.

Awwww...poor Pebbles!! We had a groomer hurt Mollipop and she acted much this way for a couple of days.
ReplyDeleteWe couldn't get her to play or anything. We felt just awful. We were hoping that she didn't think we had taken her to get punished.
