Mother's Day.

I know it's a little too early to be talking about Mother's Day, but hey, it's not my fault. I opened my assignment inbox last week and found one asking me to write about Mother's Day and since it's pretty good money and the fact that it's going to expire soon, I guess I'm going to be doing a Mother's Day post 4 months too soon ... LOL!

Actually there are times when I wonder how did the Mother's Day celebrations come about. And why is it celebrated in the month of May? Well, it did pique my curiosity so I check it out online (where else!). There were quite a few sites and all had their own versions of how it came to be. But the one I liked the most was from this site called Mother's Day Central.

Why I picked this site from all the rest? Well, that's because they're pretty informative about Mother's Day with pretty detailed articles on the complete history of Mother's Day, Mother's Day customs around the world and even the exact dates of when Mother's Day is celebrated in different part of the world (yes, not everyone celebrates it on the same day every year). Some start as early as February and some as late as December. Bet you never knew that right? :D

Well, from my poking around the site, I found out that Mother's Day celebrations has not always been lavishing your mom with gifts and dinners and stuff like that. This highly traditional practice is rooted in steep antiquity with strong and symbolic overtones. Back then, people tended to celebrate more for Goddesses and symbols rather that for actual Mothers. The objects for maternal adoration those days ranged from mythological female deities to the the Christian Church itself. Only in these very recent times has it taken on a more human and personal feel to it. Man, and I thought it was cos some mother felt she needed some kind of festival to honour her for all the crap she has to do all day long at home ... LOL!

Anyway, do check out the site if you're as curious as me about this. There's a lot in there for you to find out that will surprise you. And if you're planning to do something for your mom, this would be a great time to start planning some Mother's Day activities. They've got quite a bit of tips here for you so there really is no excuse to say you don't know what to do for mom this year on Mother's Day is there? :D

Nessa - At least he gave you a rose, plastic or not, that has to count for something right? :D Such a sweet little gesture from the lil fellow :)

I don't think I've ever given my mom anything on Mother's Day in my entire life but then I'm a guy and us guys just do bother all that much about stuff like these ... LOL!

Here's hoping you get a real flower from him this year :D
